Message from the Director

Welcome to the web page of the European Research Institute (ERI), at the University of Bath.

Established in 1994, ERI brings together European research currently under way within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and the School of Management. ERI academics and research students work together in thematic research clusters such as EU multi-level governance; Work, welfare and wellbeing; Markets, institutions and society; International Organisations,Trade Regimes & the EU; and Conflict resolution & Security Policy. In addition, two inter-continental networks operate under the auspices of the ERI: BATLAM (Bath-Latin America Network) and BECAN (Bath EU-China Academic Network). In addition, ERI's research infrastructure includes the European Documentation Centre located at the University library.

ERI hosted for many years the Journal of European Social Policy, in collaboration with the Department of Social and Policy Sciences. ERI also hosts and supports several postgraduate programmes which are closely linked to its research. These programmes involve close links with universities in Europe, America and Asia, which place the ERI at the hub of several overlapping inter-continental networks of research and training.

The institute has been recognised as a Centre of Excellence under the Jean Monnet Programme in 1997, the first institution in Europe to receive this accolade from the European Commission, and had three Jean Monnet Chairs in European Integration. The Centre of Excellence acts as a cluster of expertise on aspects of European integration which is accessible to the university community and to individuals or organisations in the south-west of England.

I hope that you will find the information in our website clear and useful and that you will enjoy your virtual visit.
