ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENT TEAM ACTIVITIES - AUTUMN/WINTER 2011/2

 

Pete Phelps (Energy and Environment Manager):

- Carbon Management Plan (CMP) implementation and strategy (technical and non-technical)
- Combined Heat and Power (CHP) and District heating project: developing technical proposals and business cases for £1-2 mil project
- Major change to purchasing energy: move over to fully flexible hedging contracts for gas and campus electricity; estimate annual saving of £0.5mil
- Renewal of all offsite properties electricity contracts
- Looking at new build handover/commissioning processes and drawing up specifications for consultants to help manage process
- Input to various new build, refurbishment projects
- Reviewing budget predictions
- Co-ordination of the team's activities

Phil Auger (Energy Engineer):

- Lighting improvements: 4W, Woodland Court, 3WN, 5W, John Wood Court, 2W, 3W, Norwood
- Proposal re light sensors in Thornbank Gdns, John Wood Court, Osborne House
- Annual financial/EMS statistics for HEFCE and targets for external agencies
- Meterweb software package feasibility study re share data with people
- Metering fitted in ICIA/Eastwood Lodge and 8 Substation
- Supplying info for Capita re Uni Masterplan and CHP feasibility study
- Sub-metering fitted in Library and 2W
- Maintenance of automated meter reading (AMR) system updating how meter reading is done to reduce manual reading
- Meters put onto AMR in Eastwood Laundry, Wessex House 3.1A, STA, Post Office,Canal Wharf GAS, Library sub-meters
- Data collection remote unit installation to improve efficiency of system
- Collating info for Accommodation and Hospitality Services re past projects and cost-benefit analysis re future opportunities (ISO 14001)
- Projects with the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering re energy usage of buildings/rooms and sharing info with students

Steve Andrews (Carbon Reduction Officer):

- Processing Salix funding for lighting re greenhouses, 1S, 3W, SU Bar, Level 1 and draught-proofing to windows in Westwood, Eastwood, Wessex House, 2E, 3E, 4E, 5W, Norwood.
- Complete Display Energy Certificates (DECs) renewals for all 48 Uni buildings; see http://bathuni.energyprojects.net/
- East building: develop baseline, monitor initial performance and rectify problems
- Establish standardised practice for fume cupboards across the campus to increase energy efficiency
- Report East building data PV panels to receive payments: £5200 for first 6 months
- Monthly meter reads
- Proposal to improve efficiency in Lansdown Crescent lighting
