What Can I Do - holidays energy checklist

1. Please remember to turn off … ideally at the plug

Lights
PCs
Monitors
Printers
Chargers
Photocopiers
Scanners
Water coolers
Electric water heaters
Anything else…?
Don't forget communal areas, shared offices, meeting rooms etc

2. Heating

Turn radiators down (not off or we risk burst pipes), set the valve on radiators to 1.
Ensure doors and windows are shut
Ensure taps turned off - if they still drip then report it to the Estates Helpdesk
(NB if you notice toilets running continuously don't forget to report this also)

3. PCs - accessing from home

Remember, if you want to work from home you do not have to leave your work PC on:

Accessing network - If you want to work on files held at the University then see the relevant BUCS pages

Green Remote Desktop - Wake on LAN (WoL) this is a method of turning on your computer from a remote location (to take advantage of this you need to contact your supporter through the BUCS online help form).

Once finished you can also shut the computer down remotely by clicking on the 'Windows Security' button found in the remote computers Start Menu, then select Shutdown. For more on WoL see.

Webmail - For e-mail, use webmail or another system, see here - again your work PC does not need to be on for this.
