The Landscape Section
Landscape maintenance
The Landscape Team is responsible for the upkeep of the
University's grounds (soft areas only). They undertake horticultural management
across the main campus, as well as the maintenance of all sports areas.
Sports areas include general pitches together with specialist areas such
as Astro pitches and clay courts.
There are several greenhouses on campus and the team grow many different
plants and cuttings for use and re-use around the campus. The Landscape
Section provide floral displays for many of the ceremonial occasions that
happen throughout the academic year from graduation ceremonies to ceremonial
dinners.

Biodiversity Wild Flower Mixture New to Campus
The Landscape Section has always strongly believed in biodiversity across the campus estates and as part of this a new wild flower mixture has been trialed for the first time this year.
This mid-height, very rich mixture was designed to attract butterflies, pollinating insects and, in general, small invertebrate or invertebrate fauna.
Predatory insects will find food and water and will provide food for many vetebrates.
Biodiversity Mix contains useful plants which act on the soil; the roots of these plants promote the micro fauna, soil aeration and the decomposition of organic matter. The inclusion of Lupins in the mixture will enrich soil fertility because these plants are leguminouis and have the ability to fix nitrogen from the atmosphere.
Floral arrangement: annuals, bi-annuals and perennials – 15 types as follows:
- White Yarrow
- Large Green Basil
- Mixed California Poppy
- Mixed Double Barbeau Cornflower
- Single Red Poppy
- Queen of May Chrysanthemum
- Aegean Wallflower
- Silver Mont Blanc Lavatera
- Red Flax
- Blue Perennial Flax
- Pixie Delight Dwarf Lupine
- Mixed Simple Sweet Williams
- Calendula Pacific Beauty
- Mixed Thlaspi Umbellata
- Vipers Bugloss
The trial of this new wild flower mixture has been so successful that the Landscape Section intend to 'seed' various other locations across campus next year.
