Department of Estates

The Department of Estates has responsibility for the delivery of all new building and major refurbishment projects on campus, inline with the University of Bath Masterplan.  Estates provide a full service from initial briefing and concept design through to planning and building regulation applications, tendering of construction works and supervision of projects through their construction phase.

The Department is supported by a framework of external consultants.

Projects are normally instigated by the Vice-Chancellor's office or the University's Executive Committee.  However, the Department of Estates is happy to provide early advice on potential projects as needed.

Campus investments

The University continues to undertake an ambitious programme of major improvements to our campus.  We completed construction of 10 West and 4 East South in 2016 and current projects include:

InstItution of Advanced Automotive Propulsion Systems facility (IAAPS)

Detailed plans have recently been submitted to South Gloucestershire Council for the University of Bath Institution of Advanced Automotive Propulsion Systems facility (IAAPS) to be developed on land at the Bristol and Bath Science Park, Emersons Green, Bristol.

The facilities will contain new technically advanced facilities including:

  • climate control rolling roads to optimise vehicle performance
  • dynamometers to lead hybrid research
  • engine, transmission and electrical machine platforms designed as cornerstone of transition to future Ultra low emission vehicles

The project will cost an estimated £60 million.

This much needed facility will be staffed by University academics, research students and automotive industry experts and is intended to bring local employment to both this facility and the wider science park

There will be a public drop-in session where the proposals for the site can be viewed. It will be an opportunity to both view a series of display boards relating to the proposals and to discuss the project and proposals with the project team. Feedback forms will also be available for attendees to complete.

The drop-in session will take place in The Forum at the Bristol and Bath Science Park during the hours of 5pm to 7:30pm on Thursday 28 June. Throughout this period members of the project team will be available to answer any queries you may have.
