    1 West update 19 October 2012

The first phase of the 1 West enabling/demolition and asbestos removal works have now been completed and the main contractor, Cowlin Construction, is preparing to start the main extension works.

The demolition was delayed due to complications with the existing structure. The Department of Estates worked closely with the consultant team and contractor to minimise disruption; however we appreciate that many staff in the adjacent building were inconvenienced and we are grateful for their tolerance.

The trees approved for removal around the access to the site have now been taken down to create the new access route and prevent damage to the neighbouring buildings. The completed building will include an enhanced landscaped area at the rear entrance. In addition the Department of Estates are coming up with proposals to plant new trees on the campus to mitigate for the loss in this area.

As we start the main works Cowlin will launch a regular newsletter to update on progress and any potential disturbance. We will ensure this is circulated and hope you find it useful.
