Dr. Paul Roche,
National Schools Astronomer, University of Glamorgan

Thursday 28 November | 7.30pm | 8W.1.1

The threat posed by impacts from space debris, in the form of pieces of rock, metal or ice ranging in size from hundreds of metres to tens of kilometres, has become a cause for concern in recent years.

By looking at the evidence from past impacts, such as that which caused the mass extinction of the dinosaurs 65 million years ago, we can build up a picture of this threat, and start to look into what (if anything...) we can do to try and protect ourselves.

This talk looks at the real science behind Hollywood movies such as "Deep Impact" and "Armageddon".
