Student finance
Frequently asked questions
Where can I find a
student’s
student number?
Student numbers are shown on library cards and should be on any
letter that the student may have received from SREO
Where can I find tuition fee instalment/direct debit dates?
Dates of tuition fee instalments are shown on ROL pages and also
on the student finance office website www.bath.ac.uk/finance/student
Where can I find whether a student has to pay an instalment charge and
how much?
Again information about instalment charges is located on the
ROL pages and also on the student finance office website www.bath.ac.uk/finance/student
Do I need to let student finance know if a student leaves or suspends?
If a student notifies the department that they wish to suspend/withdraw
the department need to let Student Records know (follow the guidance
on Changes in circumstances)
Do students get money back if they leave part way through the year?
Depends on time of year (see Changes in circumstances). If the student
is due a refund then once the student’s record has been updated
and we have adjusted their invoice to reflect that they have withdrawn
or suspended we will refund any excess back to the student.
How long does it take to get a refund?
Once the student’s record has been updated and the fees
have been adjusted the refund process takes about three weeks. Student
finance
raises the paperwork this then has to be checked and authorised by the
Cashiers Office and then passed to the Payments Office to raise a cheque.
What do we do if the department wants to support a student with tuition
fees?
If the student is not already supported by a University or Departmental
studentship then the department needs to tell the relevant student finance
assistant (U/G –Marianna Lane, P/G – Gina Page) in writing
and provide a AGRESSO activity to which the fees can be charged
How does a student complete the financial section of ROL if he/she is
being sponsored by an exterior body?
Students should complete all other sections of ROL and then bring
or send their written evidence of sponsorship to the student
finance office.
Do students need to give you their SLC assessment letter, where does
it need to go?
We do receive information about the level of funding a student
gets via an electronic process direct from the SLC but it is useful if
the student
gives the student finance office a paper copy (as a back up) if the electronic
information hasn’t yet been received.
Who needs to know if a student believes they have been wrongly assessed
as an Overseas student?
The student should be referred to the Registry to review the
assessment, the student finance office will then make any adjustment
to their fees
should this be required.
Where should a student go if they are experiencing financial difficulties?
Students should be referred to the Student Services. The
Student Money advisors will then liaise with the student finance office
if tuition
fees are affected.
Where should I send a student who cannot pay their invoice?
Students should be referred to Credit Control who will liaise
with Student Finance.
Who should I contact with a query about accommodation?
You will need to speak to the Accommodation Office directly as
the Student Finance Office has no responsibility when it comes to accommodation.
