Multi-cultural awareness programme
In a truly global world, interaction with people from other countries is becoming the norm, both at home and abroad. In today's international environment, it is not always enough to speak another language - it is also essential that other cultures are understood, as successful communication can hinge on questions of cultural etiquette.
The Foreign Languages Centre runs inter-cultural awareness events that aim to:
- Acknowledge the importance of national cultures.
- Accept that national cultures differ.
- Introduce the main differences between national cultures.
- Describe traditions and customs of selected countries.
- Invite you to understand, respect and appreciate our cultural differences.
The events planned for 2012-2013 are:
- Discover China: four-week course - starts Monday 5 November, ends Monday 26 November 2012
- Discover Eastern Europe: two-hour workshop - Wednesday 21 November 2012
- Discover China: four-weeks course - starts Monday 22 April, ends Monday 20 May 2013
- Discover Brazil, China and the Arab World: two-hour workshop - Wednesday 24 April 2013
