FLC Japanese GPJapan is one of the largest economies in the World, and a high-tech leader in fields such as optical media, semiconductor manufacturing, industrial robotics, and fermentation processes. Culturally Japan has also greatly influenced not only Asia but the World, from religious beliefs, ethics, and aesthetics to manga and anime.

Our course provides a popular introduction to the language through literature, magazines, film and music.

Based on a communicative approach to learning, you will learn practical language that you will be able to use in every day conversations. In addition, you will develop cultural awareness of the Japanese speaking world. A world of 2.5 million native speakers, with over half of these speakers living outside of Japan.

Choosing the correct language level

Use the information below to choose the correct language level for you.

Beginner part 2 (Stage 1)

This level has been designed for you if you have basic knowledge of Japanese. This course is not suitable for complete beginners.

This level will give you a basic introduction to the language.

Lower Intermediate part 2 (Stage 2)

This level has been designed for you if you can already use Japanese to speak about familiar topics. You can join this course even if you did not attend part 1, provided you are at the right level.

You should join this level if you can:

  • understand basic instructions
  • take part in a basic factual conversation on a predictable topic
  • understand basic written notices
  • complete basic forms, and write notes including times, dates and places.
