FLC Brazilian Portuguese StudentsWith its growing prominence economically and environmentally, learning Brazilian Portuguese has become increasingly important.

Our Brazilian Portuguese course provides an introduction to both Brazilian Portuguese and European Portuguese.

Based on a communicative approach to learning, you will learn practical language that you will be able to use in every day conversations. In addition, you will develop cultural awareness of the Portuguese speaking world. A world of 230 million native speakers, from 8 nations Europe, Asia, South America and Africa.

Choosing the correct language level

Use the information below to choose the correct language level for you.

Before enroling on one of our language courses please ensure that the day and time do not clash with your academic timetable using your MyTimetable.

You may only enrol on one of our courses per semester. If you would like to enrol on more than one course please contact us by email or telephone to discuss this first.

Beginner part 2

This level has been designed for you if you have a basic knowledge of Brazilian Portuguese. This course is not suitable for complete beginners.

This level will:

• give you an introduction to the language (pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar);
• focus on topics such as exchanging personal information, introductions, talking about where you are from, talking about members of your family, exchanging information about daily routine;
• provide information on the culture of Brazil. References to European Portuguese will be made throughout this course. Students will also be exposed to some variety of spoken Portuguese from Portugal and former African colonies.

Lower Intermediate part 2

You have some previous knowledge of Portuguese (completed the Complete Beginners’ course with us and/or have a GCSE or similar qualification).

You should choose this level if you can:

• understand basic instructions; demonstrate they can exchange information about their daily routine and make informal invitations, follow directions;
• take part in a basic factual conversation on a predictable topic; such as ordering at the restaurant, booking a room;
• understand basic written resources;
• write short texts about everyday topics;
• have covered basic grammar such as regular and irregular verbs in the present tense, present continuous, the imperative mode and the immediate future

What happens next

Our enrolments have now started and we allow late enrolments only in exceptional circumstances. You can contact us to discuss your request with us. You can study a language independently in the Language Zone or join the Language Exchange.
