FLC German studentsMore people speak German as their native language than any other language in Europe and, as German and Swiss economy are prosperous, it has become a popular foreign language to study in the UK and in the rest of Europe to increase one’s employability skills.

Our course provides classes from Complete Beginner through to Advanced.

Based on a communicative approach to learning, you will learn practical language that you will be able to use in every day conversations. In addition, you will develop cultural awareness of the German speaking world. A world of 90 million native speakers, and the official language of 6 countries.

Choosing the correct language level

Use the information below to choose the correct language level for you.

Complete Beginner 

This level has been designed for you if you have never studied German before.

This level will give you a basic introduction to the language.

Lower Intermediate 

This level has been designed for you if you can already use German to speak about familiar topics.

You should join this level if you can:

  • understand basic instructions
  • take part in a basic factual conversation on a predictable topic
  • understand basic written notices
  • complete basic forms, and write notes including times, dates and places.

Intermediate 

This level has been designed for you if you are already able to interact confidently in German in common social situations, like in a shop, in a restaurant or with friends.

You should join this level if you already can:

  • express simple opinions or requirements in a familiar context
  • understand straightforward written text information on familiar matters
  • write short simple texts related to personal information.

Upper Intermediate 

This level has been designed for you if you are already able to deal with most situations likely to arise while travelling in a German speaking country.

You should choose this level if you already can:

  • express opinions or offer advice within a known area
  • understand instructions or public announcements
  • understand written text about a familiar topic.

Advanced 

This level has been designed for you if you are proficient in German. You will be able to practise German on a weekly basis by engaging in guided group conversations. The course mainly focuses on speaking and listening skills.

This is your level if you can:

  • express yourself fluently
  • understand with ease spoken or written German
  • use the language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes.
