Our course provides classes from Complete Beginner through to Advanced.

Based on a communicative approach to learning, you will learn practical language that you will be able to use in every day conversations. In addition, you will develop cultural awareness of the Spanish speaking world. A world of over 470 million native speakers, the world’s second most spoken language and the official language of 20 countries.

Choosing the correct language level

Use the information below to choose the correct language level for you.

Before enroling on one of our language courses please ensure that the day and time do not clash with your academic timetable using your MyTimetable.

You may only enrol on one of our courses per semester. If you would like to enrol on more than one course please contact us by email or telephone to discuss this first.

Beginner part 2

This level has been designed for you if you have a basic knowledge of Spanish. This course is not suitable for complete beginners.

This level will give you a basic introduction to the language.

Lower Intermediate part 2

This level has been designed for you if you can already use Spanish to speak about familiar topics.

You should join this level if you can:

  • understand basic instructions
  • take part in a basic factual conversation on a predictable topic
  • understand basic written notices
  • complete basic forms, and write notes including times, dates and places.

Intermediate part 2

This level has been designed for you if you are already able to interact confidently in Spanish in common social situations, like in a shop, in a restaurant or with friends.

You should join this level if you already can:

  • express simple opinions or requirements in a familiar context
  • understand straightforward written text information on familiar matters
  • write short simple texts related to personal information.

Upper intermediate part 2

This level has been designed for you if you are already able to deal with most situations likely to arise while travelling in a Spanish speaking country.

You should choose this level if you already can:

  • express opinions or offer advice within a known area
  • understand instructions or public announcements
  • understand written text about a familiar topic.

Advanced (Stage Advanced)

This level has been designed for you if you are proficient in Spanish. You will be able to practise Spanish on a weekly basis by engaging in guided group conversations. The classes mainly focus on speaking and listening skills.

This is your level if you can:

  • express yourself fluently
  • understand with ease spoken or written Spanish
  • use the language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes.
