Understanding the experience of modern work

He studies this in three different ways.

Methodological

Michael develops new or deploys established approaches to understand experiences in different contexts. Examples include archival, ethnographic or phenomenological approaches.

Empirical

Michael directly studies workers, particularly professionals. He looks at different occupational groups including chefs, lawyers and management consultants.

A key theme in this research is the role of mental health in the workplace.

Theoretical

Michael's research contributes to our understanding of organisations in terms of emotions, identities and institutions.
