Academic dress

All students attending a University of Bath award ceremony are required to wear academic dress specific to their award. The colour of your hood, gown and hat indicates the award you have achieved and not the department or faculty in which you studied.

Gowns and Headwear:

Bachelor degrees: Gowns are plain in style and are black, accompanied by a black mortar board

Masters degree: Gowns are ‘Masters’ in style and are black, accompanied by a black mortar board

Doctorates: Gowns are ‘Oxford’ in style and are maroon, accompanied by a cloth bonnet, with silver cord and tassles.
