Learn Arabic at the Foreign Languages Centre
Find out about our courses and how to enrol on the right one for you.
We offer two levels in Arabic, Complete Beginner and Lower Intermediate.
We teach Modern Standard Arabic in both courses, but some references are made to the differences between Arab dialects. If you are mainly interested in the colloquial language spoken in Syria, Lebanon, Palestine and Israel, we also offer a Levantine Arabic course.
You should enrol on this course if you have a basic level of Arabic. This level is not suitable for those who have never studied Arabic before. If you are a complete beginner please contact us for advice on a suitable course.
At the end of this course, you will:
be able to master the Arabic alphabet and sound system
be able to initiate social interactions by asking for basic information
be able to talk about yourself, your education and your family
have had an introduction to some basic cultural aspects of social interaction in the Arab world
You should enrol on this course if you have completed the Beginners level with us. Alternatively, you can join this course if you have a GCSE or are at A1 level in the CEFR.
At the end of this course, you will be able:
to speak about a variety of subjects within your field of interest
to express thoughts and opinions
to understand the main points of clear standard speech on familiar matters
to read factual texts on subjects related to your field of interests with a good level of comprehension
write simple text using the Arabic alphabet on topics which are familiar or of personal interest
