Finding out more about our levels and enrolment dates

We offer two levels in Brazilian Portuguese, Complete Beginner and Lower Intermediate.

We teach Brazilian Portuguese, but some references are made to the other forms of Portuguese spoken around the world, especially to European Portuguese.

Complete Beginner

You should enrol on this course if you have never studied Portuguese before.

At the end of this course, you will:

  • have had an introduction to the language (pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar)

  • be confident in talking about every day topics, such as: exchanging personal information, introductions, talking about where you are from, talking about members of your family, exchanging information about daily routine

  • have learnt about the culture of Brazil

Lower intermediate

You should enrol on this course if you have completed the Beginners' level with us. Alternatively, you can join this course if you have a GCSE or are at A1 level in the CEFR.

At the end of this course, you will be able:

  • to speak about a variety of subjects within your field of interest

  • to express thoughts and opinions

  • to understand the main points of clear standard speech on familiar matters

  • to read factual texts on subjects related to your field of interests with a good level of comprehension

Independent Language Learning

University students or staff members can access independent language learning resources including films, books, and online resources to help you build your knowledge and language skills from the Language Learning Zone.
