Course Levels

We offer five levels in Spanish, from Beginner to Advanced.

We teach European Spanish, but some references are made to the other forms of Spanish spoken around the world, especially to Spanish spoken in Latin America.

Beginner

You should enrol on this course if you have a basic knowledge of Spanish. This level is not suitable for those who have never studied Spanish before. If you are a complete beginner, contact us.

At the end of this course, you will:

  • have had an introduction to the language (pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar)

  • be confident in talking about personal information and daily and leisure activities

  • have learnt about the culture of the countries where Spanish is spoken

Lower intermediate

You should enrol on this course if you have completed the Beginners level with us. Alternatively, you can join this course if you have a GCSE or are at A1 level in the CEFR.

At the end of this course, you will be able:

  • to express opinions and engage in conversation on a number of non-abstract topics

  • to understand basic written text on familiar matters

  • to write short texts related to familiar topics

Intermediate

You should enrol on this course if you have completed the Lower Intermediate level with us. Alternatively, you can join this course if you have an AS level or are at A2 level in the CEFR.

At the end of this course, you will be able:

  • to express opinions and engage in spoken activities related to a wide range of topics

  • to understand relatively long and complex written text

  • to produce relatively elaborate text with a good level of accuracy

Upper intermediate

You should enrol on this course if you have completed the Intermediate level with us. Alternatively, you can join this course if you have an A level or are at B1 in the CEFR.

At the end of this course, you will be able:

  • to express yourself fluently in Spanish

  • to understand complex spoken or written Spanish with ease, including when different registers are used

  • to use the language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes

Advanced

You should enrol on this course if you have completed the Upper Intermediate level with us. Alternatively, you should be proficient in Spanish: you might have lived in a Spanish speaking country, for instance, or be at B2/C1 in the CEFR.

If you attend this course, you will be able to practise Spanish on a weekly basis by working with complex written materials, including advanced grammar and idioms, often of an abstract nature, and engaging in a variety of speaking and listening activities.
