Nike prizes awarded to Sport & Exercise Science bloggers
17 November 2011
Last month Richard Frost, UK & Ireland
Ekin Manager at Nike, visited the University to present prizes to some of our
Sport and Exercise Science
students.
Nike supported the inaugural Sport and Exercise Science placement blog competition which encouraged students to write about their experiences during the third year of the undergraduate degree.
Competition winner Jonathan Gleave received Nike footwear following his account of his placement year at the Auckland University of Technology (AUT) in New Zealand.
Three runners up: Natalie Greening, Anna Ross and Joe Dale received Nike apparel for their entertaining and informative blogs and now return to the University for their final year of the degree.
Richard was impressed with the blogs and the students he met at Bath. He commented: “I was really impressed with all the blogs I read, some of which actually had me laughing out loud! (Jonathan Gleave, I'm talking to you...)
“From stories about personal growth, new found confidence and the realisation of what the students wanted to do after University, to the inevitable drinking tales, some pretty hectic travelling, experiencing weird and wonderful sports like 'Skurfing', and of course getting to see some fantastic athletes along the way. I think blogging and sharing this time spent in the workplace would have really cemented in the students' mind exactly what it is they accomplished and also exactly what is needed to progress on to the next step of their desired career path. Listening to the returning students energize and inspire the next year's candidates made me want to get on board myself!
“The placement programme is without a doubt one of the most valuable things you could do with your time at Uni. I would encourage all students who plan to go on into the sports industry to get as much hands on experience as possible with great initiatives like this. The application of classroom theory as well as learning how to think and deliver on the spot is something we would favour in any future Nike applicants.”
