Technical Advisory Group to Provide Strategic Challenge

A new Technical Advisory Group (TAG) reporting directly to the English Institute of Sport (EIS) board met for the first time this week tasked with providing strategic challenge and scrutiny in relation to the technical development of the organisation.

Chaired by non-executive EIS board member Professor Jo Doust the group, established following a routine review of governance arrangements, will contribute to the review of the strategic direction of EIS technical development and performance solutions, provide external scrutiny and technical information and advice.

Following a recruitment process the TAG group members have been confirmed as:

  • Professor Jo Doust (Chair) - Non Executive EIS board member
  • Dr Ken van Someren – Director of Research and Development for Human Performance, GSK
  • Professor Mike Tipton – Director of Research for Department of Sport and Exercise Science, University of Portsmouth
  • Professor Clyde Williams – Emeritus Professor of Sports Science, Loughborough University
  • Dr Vicky Tolfrey – Reader in Applied Disability Sport and Director of the Peter Harrison Centre for Disability Sport
  • Professor Ian Maynard – Director of CSES and Professor of Sport Psychology, Sheffield Hallam University
  • Dr Aki Salo – Senior Lecturer in Sport Biomechanics, University of Bath

EIS Director of Technical Development Dr Steve Ingham, an EIS representative on the group, said: “The Technical Advisory Group will perform a hugely valuable role in helping to influence the strategic technical development of the EIS and in providing external scrutiny and advice to our board.

“To that end I am delighted at the calibre of group members we have been able to recruit and look forward to tapping into the wealth of experience and world class specialist knowledge they will provide.”
