Rugby Science research annual report published

Rugby player with ballFollowing a very successful year, the RugbyScience@Bath group has produced its 2012-13 Annual Report which is available for download.

Over the last 12 months the RugbyScience@Bath group has published a total of 10 full research articles relating to the science and medicine of rugby that have been published in numerous high-impact international journals.

The group has delivered a large number of talks at rugby-related conferences, including a large presence at the ECSS2013 Congress in Barcelona with a total of 11 presentations being delivered across a range of topics.

The group has completed two research projects;

  • Community Rugby Injury Surveillance Project (CRISP) - a RFU funded injury surveillance study of community-level Men’s rugby in England which ran from 2008-2013
  • Biomechanics of the Rugby Scrum project - an IRB-funded project which ran from 2010-2013 and has informed recent global changes to scrum laws in rugby union

Some new research projects have also been developed this year;

  • CRISP2 - funded by the RFU Injured Players Foundation (2012-2015)
  • RFU Catastrophic Injuries Database & Analysis funded by the RFU (2012-2015)
  • Cervical Spine Injury Mechanisms in Rugby funded by the RFU Injured Players Foundation (2013-2014)
  • FMC: Rugby - an injury surveillance and performance monitoring study in youth rugby funded by the RFU Community, Education and Professional Rugby departments (2013-2016)
