REF2014 results confirm department’s world-leading status

The National Research Excellence Framework (REF2014) results reveal that ~90% of research conducted in the Department for Health is world leading or internationally excellent.

Following substantial recent growth and development, the Department has consolidated its position as a world-leading research hub, returning 29 staff across three different Units of Assessment, including:

The largest return from the Department was in the Sport & Exercise Sciences Unit of Assessment (C26) and highlights include:

  • overall, 90% of our research was rated as world leading or internationally excellent
  • 100% of our ‘research impact’ was rated as Outstanding or Very Considerable
  • 100% of our research environment was considered conducive to producing world-leading or internationally excellent quality.

The Department contributed five Impact Case Studies across three Units of Assessment, making a significant contribution to an exceptional result for the University of Bath.

Speaking about the results, Dr James Bilzon (Head of Department for Health) commented: “These achievements reflect our continuing commitment to conducting original and rigorous research, tackling significant societal issues and planning for rapid translation to meaningful impact.
