MSc Sports Physiotherapy

Adam Roberts

I am currently in my first year of the MSc Sports Physiotherapy and have found it to be a challenging but extremely rewarding experience.

Upon reaching my fourth year of working in professional rugby I felt the time was right to enhance my knowledge through further education. Initially, I had concerns that this would not be possible around my full time position, but fortunately the programme at the University of Bath is perfect for such circumstances.

The online learning environment (Moodle) is an easy to use learning gateway that provides access to a wide-range of learning resources, links and online forums. I have found the online forums very useful for both communicating with the teaching staff and fellow students. They are also a great way to ask questions, offer advice and learn from the conversations of others. In order to suit my limited computer time I have set the system to email me each conversation so I can stay up to date even when I am on the move!

So far, I have found the Sports Physiotherapy in Practice module to be both interesting and immediately relevant to my clinical practice. Its organisation improves your professional development through the practical application of self-analysis and critical reflection. This process is enhanced further by the feedback given to you by your PDA – an experienced sports physiotherapist currently working in the field.

The wide-range of teaching staff that the Faculty comprises of is outstanding. Each staff member is a specialist in their subject with an abundance of knowledge to share with the students. Most importantly however, they are always available and easily contactable – a reassuring fact when distance learning! The solitude of such study is broken by the residential week taking place in the middle of the academic year. The week is a fun and informative experience that enables you to attend a wide variety of lectures and workshops, whilst also networking with fellow Sports Physiotherapy and MSc Sport and Exercise Medicine students from all over the world.

The MSc Sports Physiotherapy is a fantastic programme that I would highly recommend to those wanting to develop their knowledge and skills in this specialist area.
