Ben Macdonald
MSc Sports Physiotherapy (Alumnus)

“I completed the MSc in Sports Physiotherapy at the University of Bath between 2007 and 2011. During that time I was working at Worcester Rugby club as the First Team Physiotherapist.
The MSc at Bath gave me the opportunity to continue working in a highly demanding elite sport environment, whilst simultaneously completing a postgraduate programme. The Bath MSc was the only programme that enabled me to do this.
This programme gave me the advantage of being able to immediately put into practice the knowledge I was gaining from the various modules being studied. The interactive nature of the course gave me the opportunity to draw on the experiences of other clinicians, and openly debate different subjects. I was subsequently promoted to Head of Medical Services at Worcester Rugby and I have no doubt that completing the MSc programme helped to facilitate this progression in my career.
I have since gone on to work for Team Sky ProCycling. The breadth of modules on the MSc programme including physiology, biomechanics and professional development, have prepared me well to make the transition to a new sports environment.
The tutors were extremely supportive; a fact illustrated by my continual involvement on the Sports Physiotherapy programme since graduating (something that is actively encouraged by staff), and the continuation of my MSc thesis within the biomechanics team.”
