MSc Sport and Exercise Medicine

Emir Battaloglu

I have been studying the MSc Sport and Exercise Medicine at the University of Bath via distance learning since September. So far, it has provided me with a solid grounding in sports and exercise medicine, which is refining my day-to-day clinical practice. The clinical elements of the programme are the most rewarding and valuable to my own development. I have gained a multidisciplinary approach to injury, and I've also had an insight into the role of allied professionals.

There are plenty of challenges with studying a part-time degree programme; mostly issues around time management. I am finding this aspect most difficult, as the volume of work for the programme requires a high number of hours per week. It is difficult to achieve full engagement whilst also on surgical rotation and a full on-call schedule.

To achieve the best results you will need to be very self-motivated, as the distance learning element can create a degree of isolation. The online forums however, have allowed me to keep in touch with fellow students and tutors on the programme which has helped. The residential weeks are also a great environment to interact with others on the programme.
