MSc Sports Physiotherapy

Katie Gillings

I chose to join the MSc Sports Physiotherapy programme at University of Bath, as I was looking to increase my knowledge, confidence and skills within this area.

I am living and working as a physiotherapist in Norway, but I wanted to be able to combine academic study around my full-time job. So far I have found that this has enabled me to put everything I learn in theory, into practice straight away.

Initially I was concerned about being able to maintain a good work-life balance, but once I met some fellow students during induction and residential weeks I was relieved to find that I was not alone with this concern. Juggling full-time work and studies has been a challenge, however with a little structure and guidance from the useful links on the university website, I have found this easier, and dare I say it, my time management skills have improved!

Although the residential week is not compulsory, I would highly recommend it! It is a really good chance to meet both students and tutors. The week is jam-packed, full of lectures and practical sessions, but there is also some time for socialising in the city of Bath as well!

The online learning takes a little while to get used to, and can be a little daunting at first. Your tutors will help guide you through this though, and they are always available to answer any queries or concerns online. Although you might be in another part of the world, you are only a mouse click away from help and support!

You can also communicate with fellow students through online chats and activities. This is really helpful, as everyone has different experiences and backgrounds, which creates interesting discussions and a wide-variety of learning opportunities. Regular participation in these activities facilitates your learning and development throughout each module.

I highly recommend this programme to anyone looking to further their knowledge and career with athletes of all levels and abilities. It is a challenge, but it is also highly rewarding and opens up the doors to many plentiful and exciting opportunities!
