PhD Supervision

I am interested in supervising new PhD students. If you research interest align with my own then please contact me.

I joined the Department for Health here at the University of Bath after completing my doctoral degree at University of Maryland in 2014.

I have three primary strands around which my teaching and research are focused: Sport and physical activity in relation to issues of contemporary urbanism (e.g. urban inequalities, homelessness, and NGOs seeking to address urban issues); popular cultural practices and representations (media analysis); and qualitative inquiry (e.g. field methods, memory work, textual analysis, and creative analytical practices). These are inspired by the notable ways in which sport, physical activity, and popular cultural practices more broadly contribute to examining the structure and experience of contemporary social formations and issues.

Research interests

  • Physical culture across a variety of empirical vantage points
  • Qualitative inquiry
  • Social and cultural theory
  • The body, embodiment, subjectivity, and governance
  • Issues of contemporary urbanism
