About this course

This introductory course aims to give new members of staff a flavour of the working environment. With an opening welcome and question and answer session by a member of the senior management team, it aims to help you understand what the University is here to do, how it aims to do it, and the values we aspire to.

There are interactive sessions which provide key information and enable you to make contacts, use the facilities and the services of the University rapidly and effectively and to work safely and securely.  A buffet lunch is provided.

Objectives for the day

By the end of the session you will be aware of:

  • The mission of the University and the changing environment in which it operates
  • How the University supports its staff to achieve excellence
  • How key services support the University's mission and your role
  • What other services and societies exist to support members of staff

Effective Behaviours Framework (EBF)

This course will also help you to develop skills and knowledge related to the EBF behavioural groups highlighted below:


Please note that attending the course does not provide evidence of achieving these behaviours; you will need to demonstrate them by applying your skills and knowledge.     

Who should attend this course

Newly appointed academic, research, administrative, clerical and technical staff.

New staff receive an email shortly after they join the University. If you have any queries or fail to receive an invite, please contact us.

Please note if you are a new member of academic or teaching staff, you will also be invited to an Academic Staff Development induction event. For enquiries email the Academic Staff Development Unit.

If you are a researcher you will be contacted via email with further information. Alternatively you can visit their induction website, please log in using your University username and password.
