Training and Development

Internal Training Options

Managers have a legal responsiblity to ensure that members of their team receive instruction, information and training relevant to their role.  The University Health, Safety and Environment Service can provide internal face to face training in the following areas to nominated members of staff who have a specific health and safety remit:

  • Workstation Assessment for Assessors (Train the trainer)

  • Fire Wardens

  • First Aiders

  • Induction (Train the trainer)

  • Managing Safety in Fieldwork

Further training is available to any member of staff on a first come first served basis providing they have the support of their line manager:

The Service also offers electronic self-training to all members of staff and students from the Staying Safe and Well web pages:

  • Fire Safety

  • Fire Evacuation

  • Emergency Invacuation

  • Workstation Awareness

  • Lone Working

  • Dealing with Agression

  • Carrying out a risk assessment

 External Training Options

Managers wishing to provide training for staff within their departments who have specific responsibility for safety could consider:

  • IOSH Managing Safely (4 day course)

  • NEBOSH General Certificate (10 day intensive or 12 week, day release course)

 More in depth or specialist training is unlikely to be necessary in most cases but if you feel that there is a need, then please contact the Health, Safety and Environment Service for further help and advice.
