Fire safety training for designated fire wardens

Date(s): 30 July 2013

Time: 10:00 - 12:00

Presenter : Mark Burton (UHSE Fire Safety Adviser)

About this course:

Maintaining high standards of fire safety is in everyone's interest, it saves lives and ensures that our livelihoods are protected. Why then do we find so many breaches of basic fire safety as we walk around the University? This course will explain the way in which fires start, how the construction of buildings helps prevent fire spreading, why escape routes need to be 'sterile' and what sort of things should never be put in protected stairwells and corridors. The recent SENDA legislation has highlighted the need and importance of identifying means of escape for people with disabilities and this will also be covered in the session.

You will learn
How to identify, report and take action to minimize hazards
Take prompt and effective action in the event of a fire
How to sweep an area and evacuate everyone to a place of safety
Tackle small fires before they become a serious threat

Who should attend this course:

This course is open to designated fire wardens who are prepared to take charge when the fire alarms are sounding.
