Vulnerable people

A range of persons who can be described as vulnerable.

People may be vulnerable because of a characteristic of that person, or because of the nature of the work they do.

  • Young people (under the age of 18)

  • People with disabilities, which may be physcial, health or hidden disability

  • Expectant and new mothers

  • Night workers

  • Lone workers

  • Home workers

Specific risk assessment should be undertaken for any person or group of people identified as being in one of these groups. Vulnerable people should be at no greater risk of injury or ill-health caused by work than anyone else at work.

People with disabilities that might hinder their ability to exit a building in emergency should have a Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (PEEP).
