University Research Studentships (URS) and Graduate School Scholarships (GSS)

URS 50th anniversary excellence studentships (Overseas candidates)

(Full-time students only)
Applications from any field of research are eligible. Funding lasts for three years. Each year provides:
  • Overseas tuition fee
  • Stipend of £13,590 (for living expenses) to be confirmed
  • Training Support Grant of £1,000 per year (for travel, fieldwork etc.)

URS Graduate School

(Full-time students only)

Graduate School Scholarship (Full-time students covering three years, and part-time students covering up to six years of study) Funding available for Home/EU & Overseas students through the Faculty Graduate School. Funding lasts for three years.

  • Training Support Grant (for travel, fieldwork etc.) to be confirmed

Economic & Social Research Council (ESRC) SWDTC Studentships

The University of Bath is a member of the ESRC-accredited South West Doctoral Training Centre (SWDTC), through which ESRC scholarships will be allocated. (Full-time or part-time students)
Applications from a field of research that aligns with the discipline are eligible.

The Residential Eligibility determines whether students can apply for the Full Award or Fees-only Award.
Funding lasts for three or four years*

Full Award (each year) provides:
  • Home/EU fee (not overseas rate)
  • Stipend of £13,590 (for living expenses) 
  • Training Support Grant of £750 per year (for travel, fieldwork etc.).
  • Overseas fieldwork support of £250
Fees-only Award (each year) provides:
  • Home/EU Fee rate (not overseas rate)
  • Training Support Grant of £750 per year (for travel, fieldwork etc.).
Not available for 2013/14 - details for 2014/15 will follow.
ESRC SWDTC
Interdisciplinary collaborative pathways

(Full-time or part-time students)
Applications from a field of research that aligns with the nature of the relevant interdisciplinary pathway are eligible.

The Residential Eligibility determines whether students can apply for the Full Award or Fees-only Award.

  • Stipend of £13,590 (for living expenses)
  • Training Support Grant of £750 per year (for travel, fieldwork etc.).

GWR SWDTC Collaborative PhD Studentship Scheme

(Full-time or part-time students)
Applicants of the ESRC SWDTC Discipline and Interdisciplinary Awards who may have an External Partner (prepared to partially fund your research work on the +3 PhD) may apply. As ESRC SWDTC Quota Award / Open Competition Awards Not available for 2013/14 - details for 2014/15 will follow.
