Student placements

Help with getting your placement

Play the video Students discuss the support they were given before undertaking their placement year.

Our dedicated Placements Team will support and guide you through the recruitment process to gain your placement:

  • During the first two years you will be given briefings and information preparing you for the placement.
  • You will receive guidance on writing CVs and application letters, as well as advice on interview skills from our full-time Placement Officer and the Careers Service.
  • In your second year you will start applying for placements. These are advertised online by our Placements Officer. The recruitment process is competitive, giving you good practice for the graduate job search.
  • We also provide assistance to students with any kind of disability with access to funding necessary adjustments within the workplace.

Support while on your placement

Play the video Students and employers discuss the support provided during the placement year.
  • You will be in regular contact with the Placements Tutor who will provide you with information, advice and support throughout.
  • You will be guided by your supervisor at the workplace.
  • You will have contact with your personal tutor and dissertation supervisor.
  • If you are on placement in the UK, a member of our staff will visit you.
  • During your placement year you will write reports and prepare a placement poster describing your placement experience.

After you have finished your placement

Play the video An overview of the support available to students after their placement year.

At the beginning of your fourth year you will display your poster to first and second year students and staff at an informal social event.

You will be given assistance in re-integrating back into academic life and in utilising the skills and experience you have gained.
