No contemporary British writer has made the city the central subject of their work more that acclaimed author Iain Sinclair. Considered the godfather of modern psychogeographers, his work is multi-layered, full of political satire, black comedy, secret history, myth, mysticism and autobiography. Perhaps best known for his unique project London Orbital: A Walk Around the M25; he uncovers the scale of the invasion of commerce and witnesses the disappearance of landscapes. His novel, Downriver, is a key work of the Thatcherite 90s.
Iain Sinclair returned to ICIA in 2009 to host a post-performance discussion with John Foxx following The Quiet Man.
