To mark the opening of their exhibition, collaborative artists’ group Tea (Peter Hatton, Val Murray and Lynn Pilling) talked to Dr Dawn Lyon, Sociologist, University of Kent. Tea creates ambitious visual arts projects which involve a wide range of audiences and locations, redefining public art. Here, they discussed their ‘occupation’ of Widnes Waterfront, a post-industrial wasteland, poised before a period of renewal. In temporary fragile structures – their “hides’ – they observed, researched, performed and recorded while offering hospitality and creating dialogues with invited experts with a range of relationships to the area.
