Attab Haddad

Singularities Series: Oud
8 Oct 2009
University Hall Music Room
For the Singularities series, Attab Haddad showcased a new approach to the age-old traditions of the Oud, an Arabic instrument preceding the western lute and guitar. Though steeped in the old tradition of the ud, Haddad brings a contemporary edge, exploring elements of flamenco, Middle Eastern classical, jazz, classical and experimental approaches.
Attab studied at the Arab Oud House in Cairo under Iraqi virtuoso Naseer Shamma and Egyptian soloist Nihad El-Sayed, and in London under Iraqi soloist Ahmed Mukhtar. Based in the UK, Attab is highly respected in his field, has performed at the Southbank Centre, and contributed to the score for the film Blood Diamond. More recently, Haddad has been signed to Warner-Universal records.
