Fri 1 Apr – The Coach House, American Museum in Britain, Bath
Dominic Frasca is the finest new exponent of contemporary guitar from the USA. He made his premiere UK performance with ICIA at the American Museum in Bath.
Frasca’s musical genius is focused with a meticulous technique. The result is the continued accumulation of accolades from figures at the pinnacle of 21st Century music making, and immense popularity reflected in over 800,000 Youtube hits a month. Increasingly mentioned in the same breath as Robert Fripp, Michael Hedges, Richard Thompson and Adrian Belew, Frasca is championed by the pre-eminent minimalist composer Steve Reich and applauded by Philip Glass.
Playing guitars with 6, 10 and 13 strings, with physical modifications to the instrument and the use of electronics for sampling and multichannel loudspeakers, Frasca produces “… a sublime polyrhythmic orchestra… a whirlwind of polyphony… impossibly generated by only two hands.” Downbeat Magazine (USA)
This concert celebrated the 50th anniversary of the American Museum in Britain, and was the first public event in the Museum’s newly constructed performance space, The Coach House.
