As part of a UK tour, National Dance Network showcased the the best up-and-coming choreographers and their collaborators, each with an exceptional track record.
A new initiative, Dance3 is designed to support the development of choreographers in the early stages of their careers.
The three works performed at ICIA were accompanied by a foyer installation, A Blank Canvas by Heather Eddington’s State of Flux dance-film company.
4m2 by Claire Cunningham & Jose Agudo – An energetic and engaging duet, 4m2 explored real-life stories of isolation and freedom, set against a stunning filmic backdrop and multi-layered soundscape by Scanner.
Cabin Fever by Tom Dale – Lost in a world of their own, a character’s cabin fever produced an exhilerating and hypnotic solo performance. Startlingly expressive, it became a metaphor for a contemporary state of mind.
a mind as beautiful by Douglas Thorpe – Blistering, brutal and sometimes achingly tender, Thorpe, an ex-Phoenix dancer, explored the experience of schizophrenia. The speed, rhythm and precision of his trademark choreography were fused with a moving spoken-word narrative in this piece for four dancers.
