Curriculum: Engineering Undergraduate Courses - Definitions of Terms
The Working Party found it necessary to define the terms used in the proposed curriculum. The main areas identified in the design activity model are specified below, the topics in each being explained in Appendix B.

Core Phases. The main identifiable phases through which a design project should pass from the identification of a need to the final product in use.

Specification. A definitive document specifying the requirements to which the resulting product should conform.

Information. The total body of relevant knowledge in the form of facts and opinions.

Techniques. Aids to the transformation of information, including engineering science, into forms useful to progress a project.

Management. The planning, organisation and control of men, money, materials and time to achieve the objectives of the project.
