The Detail Design Phase Home < >The Detail Design Phase: Topic Definition
The detail design phase is the final stage in the transition of a proposal to a fully tested, detailed and practical product description which may be manufactured. It follows the conceptual design phase in the design process (Figure 1) - although, in practice, no clear demarcation between the two phases exists, as the former merges into the latter .

For the purpose of this document it is assumed that in progressing to the detail design phase the product has been advanced to a stage where one preferred concept has been isolated and that the individual components/sub-units that make up the product are readily identifiable. During the phase this chosen conceptual scheme will be progressively developed with the addition of detail. This activity may involve:
On completion of this phase sufficient documentation will have been produced to allow manufacture to take place.
