Institute for Mathematical Innovation

Come along to our Open House

IMI supports a wide range of interdisciplinary research activities at the University of Bath.

All staff and PhD students at the University of Bath are warmly invited to IMI Open House to learn more about our work and how we can support your research. Held monthly, this is an informal coffee morning with short talks and discussion which will give you a flavour of IMI's current activities.

Next IMI Open House: Thursday 7 December from 11.15 am - 12.05 pm in the Wolfson Lecture Theatre (4W 1.7)

Susanne Gebhard, Department of Biology and Biochemistry and IMI secondee, will tell us about her research on antibiotic resistance networks;
Michael Shapiro, Department of Biology and Biochemistry, will talk about how he uses next generation sequencing to learn things about the 3D structure of DNA.

Open House meetings is also an opportunity for you to pitch collaboration ideas or present current research challenges with a potential mathematical or statistical angle, and will also showcase some of the IMI Internal Secondee projects.

Our Open House meetings are all about:

  • demonstrating how you can benefit from working with a mathematician or statistician
  • introducing you to researchers across campus who are interested in similar problems
  • letting you know of research opportunities with our industrial partners
  • facilitating cross-campus research collaborations that involve a mathematical element.

You don’t need to let us know in advance that you are coming. Just come along on the day for an informal talk and exchange of ideas. We will also be happy to answer any question you may have, big or small, and importantly, there will be plenty of tea, coffee and cake.

If you have an interest in working with mathematicians or statisticians, or collaborating with an industry partner, please join us at IMI Open House!

We look forward to seeing you.
