Goods Distribution with Electric Vehicles

Professor Gilbert Laporte explores the potential for using electric vehicles in the goods transport sector.

IMI Public Lecture

When: Wednesday 13 February 2019, 3.15pm - 4.15pm (Tea and coffee from 2.45pm)

Venue: University of Bath, Lecture theatre to be announced.

Electrical trucksAbstract: Demand for electric vehicles has soared in the past year, mostly in the area of passenger vehicles. However, there is also a huge potential for increased use of electrical vehicles (EVs) in the goods transport sector.

The use of EVs for goods distribution opens up a wide range of research problems. In this talk, Professor Gilbert Laporte will explore some important aspects to consider, including information on the purchase cost of EVs, market shares, adoption by companies, technical considerations regarding batteries, cost competitiveness, and adoption incentives.

Following on from this, Laporte will give an overview of current research in the area of transportation science, and discuss research perspectives at the strategic, tactical and operational levels.
