Placements

Our placement values

We are committed to supporting student placements to enhance the vocational relevance of our teaching awards and the learning experience (including thick/thin/integrated sandwich modes of study).

All our undergraduate level disciplines provide opportunities for placements within the UK or abroad, either as a mandatory or an optional element.

Despite increasing competition in the UK, our students have a successful record of obtaining sandwich placements. This is evidence of employers' confidence in our ability to prepare undergraduate students for the working environment, ensuring they develop discipline-based skills, as well as transferable/key skills in (communication, numeracy, IT and learning skills).

The placement forms a significant contribution to a student's personal and professional training and enhances employment prospects. Additionally, staff gain a direct link to research and development activities in industry, enabling them to ensure that the curriculum is relevant and meets the needs of prospective employers.

We believe that employers place greater value on salaried employees, and therefore encourage provision of paid placements. However, there are also a number of unpaid placements each year.
