In 1999, the Registrar established a Working Group on the Management of Student Records to take a first step towards devising a University policy for the management of student records (held both centrally and in individual departments). Following initial work done by this group, the Registrar formed a Student Records Management Steering Group comprising departmental and faculty representatives alongside those with technical expertise. A Policy Statement on records management within the University (in general, rather than for student records alone) has been agreed by the Executive Committee. More ... The Steering Group has gone on to consider a range of sets of records. It has drafted and circulated consultation material in accordance with its terminology and procedures and submitted policy proposals for approval by the Registrar. The fourth round of these proposals was approved by the Registrar in August 2003. In March 2004 the remit of the Steering Group was extended to include all types of records created and maintained within the University. It continues to work in close collaboration with record creators and owners to produce institutional policy on records retention.
