This document provides a step-by-step approach to looking at the material
available for consultation.
1. New readers: if you are new to this, please
read this section first
In addition to the legislative prompts from, for example, the Data Protection
Act 1998, there have been numerous requests for guidelines or policy statements
on the management of University records. You can find here information
about:
- The Records Management Steering
Group, which has been asked to undertake the work in this area.
- Terminology which helps to us to be
clear about what we're discussing.
- The procedure which the Registrar has
established for bringing forward proposals, consulting about them, and
bringing guidelines and policies into place.
- Consultations which are taking place.
- Policy on the retention of various
types of records which has been approved by the Registrar or other relevant
University officer.
2. New consultations
There is a document which lists consultations
as they are undertaken. You can check what is going on at this page, but
we will also write by e-mail to appropriate groups of staff for each set
of material. Thus, if Departmental Administrators are identified as the
group which would need to undertake an action, they will be asked specifically
to look at the relevant material, and to comment on it. Proposals will
also be drawn to the attention of other groups which would have an interest
in them. The members of the Steering Group would be pleased to receive
comments from any member of the University community about these proposals.
3. Background material
You might, at any stage, want to refresh your memory about terminology,
or the procedure we are following.
4. Checking out the new proposals
Please look at the proposals listed as new at consultations.
Please note the timescale for responses, and send any comments you may
wish to make to E.Richmond@bath.ac.uk
If you consider that what is proposed should be adopted as University
policy, you need take no further action (though it would be encouraging
for the Steering Group to hear, if you think the proposals are right).
If, on the other hand, you consider that some point has been missed, or
that a different approach should be taken on a particular item, you are
invited to register your view.
Following the consultation period, subsequent action will be taken in
accordance with procedure document.
5. Checking out approved policy
Please look at the proposals approved by the Registrar as University
policy at approved policy.
