Radstock College vs Venturers, Wednesday July 1st

Radstock 142-5, Venturers 134 all -out

In the April fixture against Radstock, Everton Griffiths made 128 not-out in a total of 167. This time, he batted at number 5, and came in around the 10th over. At this stage, Saurabh had taken 2-7 off 4 overs, Roger had taken a catch off Adam's bowling and the game was well within our control. Everton Griffiths then proceded to score 77 runs, until Nigel, whio bowled very well at the death, got him out with the last ball of the innings, smartly caught by Alex W. Gregory was unfortunate in bowling virtually all of his four overs to Everton, but no bowler was spared his powerful hitting. They made 141 in total.

Our reply was undone by poor shot selection. Nigel opened with Alex W. Everything went to plan as they comfortably put on 40-odd in 6 overs. Alex was unlucky to hit an offside full toss to covers. Ian G tamely popped a leg side full toss to midwicket. Nigel then fell to an exceptional leg side catch off their tiny leg spinner. Kevin and Roger then scored 30+ in about three overs, before both committed suicide in the same over to the leg spinner; Kevin was bowled going for a big heave and Roger holed out to Mr Griffiths at mid on.

We were well on top of the run rate but losing wickets; even when Alex C and Saurabh were taking some quick run singles, we only needed a run a ball off 5 overs. Then Saurabh slogged unnecessarily, and was caught, and Mr Griffiths bought himself on to deliver two tight overs at the end. Alex W, Nigel, Kevin and Roger had made 17,18,16, 18. It just needed one of those to stay in and make 40 and we might have sneaked home. Alex C got 18 too, at the end, batting sensibly whilst all around him lost their heads.
