Venturers vs South Wraxall, Sunday May 30th

Venturers 92 all out, South Wraxall 94-5

We didn't lose a wicket until the fifteenth over. Excellent! When we did, the score was 32. Less good. Fluffy and Tom Rosoman had laid this foundation but they had dug too deep a hole and we never quite climbed out of it. Perhaps if they hadn't we should just have fallen in a heap anyway. Chris Middup and Tom were joint top scorers with eighteen each and the run rate barely exceeded 2 for the entire innings. We hit five fours in forty overs and lost wickets to a strange collection of bad shots or, in Santha's case, bad running. South Wraxall bowled quite well but we didn't have to do that.

Stuart and Paul kept the runs down to a degree that would have been good if we had made a decent score ourselves, but we needed wickets. Stuart got one, a good catch by Tom, and towards the end we started to do all right, with Gregory removing Hamish again when he miscued a drive. The highlight, though a useless one, was Chris Middup's catch off Santha, stunning the ball as it passed overhead with an upstretched palm and cupping it in both hands as it dropped perpendicularly in front of him. Gregory and Santha got one more wicket each so the final score looked not too bad in terms of wickets; but they had more than sixteen overs to spare.
