Venturers Vs Canal Taverners, Wednesday June 19th

Canal Taverners 109-9, Venturers 64

We mostly bowled all right, especially Kevin. He, Prashant, Rohit and Gregory each got a couple of wickets. We did miss three very easy runouts, though, and Rohit was (correctly) denied a wicket because of a no-ball. This cancelled what would have been Chris Smith’s first catch for us, although he has played quite a lot, but he only had an over to complain about it before a real one arrived for him, off a half-tracker from Gregory. Perhaps if we had been a bit more efficient in the field we might have kept them to 90. It would still have been far too many. They had a fairly quick and well-coached opening bowler, although his coaching did not apparently include being taught where to bowl from. His team-mates explained the no-ball law to him on request. He produced an excellent and legitimate ball in his first over that bowled Chris S through a solid-looking defensive shot. Then the slow left-armer who has demolished us in the past, playing for various Bradford sides, demolished us again. Only Chris M had any idea what to do, and even he was badly dropped once. Simon kept them out of the pub for a few minutes at the end, but that was about it.
