Visa advice: Entry Clearance Correction Scheme (visa corrections)
Free Entry Clearance Correction Scheme operated by the UK Border Agency.
Sometimes students are not given the correct visa expriy date by an Entry Clearance post (British Embassy) overseas.
Am I eligible for a free correction?
You may be eligible if:
- You have a student visa (entry clearance)
- Your current visa (entry clearance) was given to you overseas
- You are currently registered on the course written in the original offer letter you used in your visa application
- You believe your visa (entry clearance) expiry date is wrong (see below).
What should my expiry date be?
- POSTGRADUATE STUDENTS – postgraduate
students should be granted 4 months beyond the end of their course.
- NON-POSTGRADUATE STUDENTS COMING FOR COURSES OF ONE ACADEMIC
YEAR OR MORE THAT FINISH IN THE SUMMER should be given until 31st
October following the end of their course.
- SHORT TERM STUDENTS:
- Studying English or other course of 12 months or less but more than 6 months’ duration, should be granted to the end of the course plus 2 months (to end of the month);
- Studying a course of 6 months or less, should be granted to the end of the course plus up to a maximum of 7 days;
- Pre-sessional course of 6 months or less, should be granted to
the end of the course plus up to a maximum of 1 month.
4. DEPENDANTS OF STUDENTS should be granted the same period as the student.
How does the scheme work?
- Bring a copy of your passport and your offer letter to a drop-in advice session
- International Student Advice Team checks that you are eligible and sends an application form to the Home Office
- Home Office contacts the Entry Clearance post overseas who granted your Entry Clearance
- Entry Clearance post confirms whether or not a mistake was made
- If a mistake was made, we will ask you to bring in your passport, 2 photos and your police registration certificate if you are required to register with the police, and we will send them to the Home Office
- Your passport will be returned within 3 weeks.
Important:
Do not let your visa expire whilst waiting for a response.
Be prepared to wait - Entry Clearance posts overseas may take a while to respond.
