Country Information
Argentina
My name is Jo Power and I am the country manager for Argentina. This means that I am able to assist Argentine students with any enquiries that they may have concerning our programmes of study and, more generally, living and studying in Bath. I keep in regular contact with our applicants throughout the year via email.
Bath is becoming an increasingly popular destination for Latin American students looking to undertake a degree in the UK. They are attracted by our outstanding reputation, the excellent facilities provided on our campus and the chance to live in a UNESCO World Heritage City that offers a very different environment to that which many of them have experienced before in their home country.
I hope I will have the opportunity to meet you in the future. If you would like to contact me my email address is J.Power@bath.ac.uk and wherever I am in the world I will do my best to reply as quickly as I can with the information that you need.
Entry Requirements
Scholarships and funding for Argentinean students
Come and meet us and our representatives
Entry Requirements
These are general guidelines only and exact requirements will vary on an individual basis and from subject to subject, so please do check the requirements for your programme.
Undergraduate degrees
Our Bachelors degrees take from 3 to 5 years to complete. All of our programmes offer internship or study abroad opportunities and many are professionally accredited. Bath graduates enjoy among the highest employment rates and starting salaries in the UK.
The Argentinean high school certificate (Bachillerato) is not a sufficient qualification for direct entry onto a Bachelors degree programme at the University of Bath. If you have been through the Argentinean school system you will need to undertake a bridging qualification in order to progress on to undergraduate studies. Our Foundation Year is recommended for Argentine high school graduates and is the ideal preparation for undergraduate studies.
The University welcomes applications from students taking A Level examinations, the International Baccalaureate (IB) and certain other internationally recognised qualifications for direct entry into undergraduate programmes. We have in the past received applications from students attending international schools in Argentina as well as Argentinean students undertaking their schooling in the UK. Details of the grades or points required can be found in our undergraduate prospectus.
All students need to demonstrate proficiency in English in order to enroll at the University. This may either be evidenced through school examinations such as the GCSE or IB, or as a result of undertaking an English language test, such as TOEFL or IELTS.
All undergraduate applications, including Foundation Year, must be made through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Services (UCAS). Assuming you are intending to continue on directly from high school in Argentina to university in Britain, then you should apply in your final year of high school. You may apply from September 1st onwards. You therefore do not need to have completed your high school education in order to apply. If we are looking to make you an offer of admission we can make what we call a ‘conditional’ offer and we will be clear about the level of performance we expect in your remaining examinations and assessments in order to qualify for entry to our university. UCAS has on-line application facility - http://www.ucas.com/students/apply/ The benefit of UCAS is that for a nominal fee you can make all your UK university applications through one channel and track admissions decisions in real time via the UCAS website.
Postgraduate taught degrees
Holders of a Bachelors degree (Licenciado) from a recognised university in Argentina awarded after 4 or more years of study are welcome to apply for one of our Masters programmes. Grade requirements will vary as we take into account a number of factors, such as your subject of study, the grades in individual classes, and the institution at which you obtained your degree. Details of the entry requirements for each of our postgraduate taught degrees are provided on our website alongside the course details. Please read them carefully, as there can sometimes be additional requirements, such as the need for working experience or a very specific academic background.
Students will need to take an English language test, unless they have studied in the recent past in an English speaking country. Many students will undertake a short English course in our English Language Centre before starting their Masters degree. This is excellent preparation for the Masters, as well as a good opportunity to get used to life in Bath and enjoy some of the English summer before your degree begins.
Research degrees
A Masters level qualification (Maestria or Magister) from a recognised university in Argentina will generally be required for MPhil/PhD entry. Evidence of some research experience (for example through a Masters degree project) is often expected and in addition to the standard application papers a research proposal is needed, outlining how you intend to go about your research. As with all our programmes, applicants will need to demonstrate proficiency in English through a satisfactory result in a recognised test such as IELTS or TOEFL.
Scholarships and funding for Argentinean students
The University of Bath Scholarships Scheme offers 75 scholarships of £3000 each for students on post-graduate taught programmes. Candidates must complete a separate application form once they have filmy accepted an offer from Bath. For full details see http://www.bath.ac.uk/international/finance/scholarships/index.html
Through the generosity of Grupo Santander we have 5 scholarships of £5000 for students on post-graduate taught programmes. Candidates must be nationals of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Spain, Uruguay or Venezuela and be a graduate of a university included on the list of ‘Santander Universities’. (You can check the list at: www.santander.com). As with our general Masters scholarships, candidates must complete a separate application form once they have filmy accepted an offer of Admission from the University of Bath. It is possible to apply both for this award and one of our 75 general scholarships. These awards may also be held in conjunction with partial funding from outside sponsors. Full details of the Grupo Santander scholarships can be found at: http://www.bath.ac.uk/international/finance/scholarships/abbeysan.html
For MPhil/PhD students we provide both full and partial research degree scholarships and these are awarded on a competitive basis. Some are designated for certain research topics and others are offered on a university-wide basis. You may indicate that you wish to be considered for a scholarship on the research degree programme application form.
Funding for undergraduate studies is very limited, although a few of our academic departments have small scholarships available to applicants who are offered a place on their degrees.
There may be funding bodies in Argentina which are able to offer scholarships for students looking to undertake a degree in the UK. We always advise any applicant seeking financial support to explore potential sources of aid available in their own country. The British Council may have a number of awards on offer through the Chevening scheme and further details may be obtained from the British Council.
